This month’s bullet journal layout is far different than my layouts usually are. Normally I keep my bullet journal fairly minimal and simple, I keep color and art to a minimum; however, this month Life of Colour sent me their watercolor brush pens to try out, and I just had to create my July pages around the idea of watercolor. Theme | Watercolor Abstract Night Sky
If you follow me on Instagram, then you are well aware of my love for watercolor and how often I try to incorporate it. That being said, when Life of Colour contacted me about trying out their pens and becoming an ambassador, I simply HAD to say yes. After messing around with the pens and creating their ‘pen test” page (see below), I can safely say that these watercolor pens are amazing!
I messed around with the pens for a few days, then inspiration hit! First, I needed a new theme for July but had been too busy to give it any thought. I have always loved seeing super artistic bullet journaling Instagrams who create night sky art that is phenomenal. While I could never do something so beautiful with any kind of pen, I thought that I could embrace my imperfect art style and create something sort of abstract—a night sky was the perfect fit! Thus, I created my night sky themed July bullet journaling layouts.
Layouts
I chose the night sky theme. However, you really only see that at play on the title page. The title page is covered completely using the blue and gray watercolor pens speckled with “stars” using the yellow pen. I blended out the starts using the water blending pen that came with my Life of Colour pen set I also used the yellow pens in the center of “July” and then outlined it using a black Tombow Dual Brush Pen. The goal of this layout was to be messy and abstract, I did not want perfection because the imperfections are my favorite part of watercolor.
After I created the title page, I focused on my monthly page. I wanted to switch things up even more while I was being uncharacteristically artistic. I put the calendar on the right side of the page and put my goals on the left. This month I felt there to be no need in taking up space with labeling the month since I had a hello July page. I filled the background of these layouts with the yellow watercolor.
I kept the weekly layouts incredibly similar to normal. The main difference was filling the top with the yellow watercolor. Additionally, I used the same blue and black watercolor night sky method on the days of the week. I was so inspired by this theme that I ordered some night sky washi tape to add to my weekly layouts. This month may easily be one of my favorite layouts so far this year!
